NOTE: As you work with your players, remind them that when shooting the ball on goal they must always kick away from the goalkeeper. This must be taught early and often. A good way to teach this is to place a few cones at the right and left corners of the goal and have your player try to knock down the cones when they shoot. Don’t just have them kick the ball at the goal. They must learn to accurately place the ball. Remember, you can buy small portable soccer goals or you may use cones to set the right and left parameters of the goal. This then becomes the goal. Young soccer players tend to look at the goal, see the goalkeeper, and kick to that person. The goalkeeper is a no-kick area, and all kicks must be to the right or left of him or her.
